Parade Announcements
Date: 6/23/2009
It is now mid-June and before you know it the parade will be coming down the street.
A couple of musical units that will be returning are the Yankee Doodle Band and the Hartford Steel Symphony, along with ten others.
Have you considered participating in the parade? Maybe you have a business or organization in town. How about building a float? It does not have to be a major production, just something representing your company or organization. It should be decorated tastefully and so as to follow the parade's theme.
Just a reminder that there are some important rules to be followed to make the parade a safe event for both spectators and participants. They are as follows:
- No candy or other objects shall be thrown from cars or floats. Throwing candy has been banned due to many close calls between parade units and children running into the street to get pieces of candy.
- Alcohol or drug use in the parade will not be tolerated.
- Due to safety concerns and emergency reasons the use of sirens and air horns during the parade is not allowed!
- Political advertising or soliciting is not allowed. This includes the distribution of election materials during the parade.

The house decorating contest is back! The question is, are you ready? Remember, the theme this year is "Celebrate America." Decorating themes should be based around the theme. As always the generous use of flags and banners is encouraged. Judging will take place on July 3 between noon and 6 p.m. Decision of the judges is final. All residents with homes along the parade route are invited to participate in showing their spirit with a chance to win a prize. If you are leaving any flags up overnight, please remember they must be properly lit from dusk to dawn. All winners will be announced on July 4 from the announcers stand in the center of town prior to the start of the parade. Good luck to all!

The parade committee is looking for veterans of all wars and conflicts. We want all veterans, past and present. This includes men and women who have served in each of the World Wars, Korea, Vietnam, Desert Storm, Desert Shield, Iraq and Afghanistan.
We invite you to participate in this year's Fourth of July parade, so that our community can pay tribute to you and recognize you for your service to the nation.
Veterans and active members of the military are encouraged to wear their uniforms so as to provide notoriety of your service to our country.

The committee continues to look for people to work in the positions of banner carriers and parade marshals.
Banner carriers can be children who are at least middle school age. High school students who wish to be either banner carriers or parade marshals can receive community service time toward graduation.
Parade marshals help the committee form up and run the parade on July 4. Marshals are required to attend a couple of meetings prior to the parade. During the meetings they will be notified as to where and who they will be working with and the current parade line up.
Anyone interested should contact Carl Ohlin at 525-2952.
