Parade committee seeks helpers for July 4

EAST LONGMEADOW The East Longmeadow July 4th Parade Committee is looking for volunteers to work in the positions of parade banner carrier and parade marshal.

Children may be banner carriers but should be at least middle school age. They can also receive community service credit for their efforts.

According to Parade Committee Publicity Chair Brian Folk, the parade marshals are responsible for helping the committee line-up and run the parade on July 4. The marshals are required to attend a meeting a few days before the parade. At the meeting they will be notified where and who they are working with, as well as the current parade line-up.

Anyone interested in either position may contact the Committee President Carl Ohlin, at 525-2952.

"The music is the only thing that is finalized right now," Falk said. "The flyers were sent out to all the floats and groups that participated last year and they should be coming in soon."

The music line up for this year's parade includes, the multiple bands of the Melha Shriners, the Black River Fife & Drum Corp, the Yankee Doodle Band, the Hartford Steel Symphony, the Springfield Kiltie Band, the East Longmeadow High School Band, the Aqua String Band, the Windsor Fife & Drum Corps, the Springfield Italian American Band, the Connecticut Hurricanes Drum & Bugle Corps, the Marquis of Granby Fife & Drum Corps, and the Tivuli Garden Band from Kingston, Jamaica.
