EAST LONGMEADOW The East Longmeadow High School Key Club (the school service organization affiliated with the Kiwanis Club) put on a Powder Puff game on Oct. 2.

The game is held every two years and is always played in order to raise money for a cause chosen by the students. This year the students wanted to honor their classmate Brianna Donovan by donating the proceeds to the foundation set up in her memory. This was the most successful game the they ever had in terms of raising money -- $3500 was given to the Donovan and Skiffington families to help fund both a scholarship and activities they've become active in to raise awareness among teens about the importance of seatbelts.

In the past, the recipients of the proceeds have been The Warming Place in Springfield and the Whispering Horse Therapeutic Center in East Longmeadow.

About the Powder Puff game

This is a game where the girls play flag football and the boys dress up in ludicrous cheerleader costumes.

Freshman play sophomores, juniors play seniors, and the two winning teams face each other in a third game to name the winner. This year the sophomores won.

Key Club members planned for weeks for this game and we were also fortunate to have the assistance of other faculty members in refereeing and supervising the audio booth.
