Reduced priced home is object of lottery drawing

EAST LONGMEADOW All eligible applicants can not enter a lottery drawing for the purchase of a six room home located in Benton Estates in East Longmeadow. Currently appraised at $230,000 the house's price has been reduced to $154,330.

Hosted by the East Longmeadow Housing Partnership Committee, which falls under the jurisdiction of the state's Department of Housing and Community Development, the committee requires that all applicants meet specific requiments that put them in the drawing to possibly obtain the 15 year-old colonial situated on a 4,906 square-foot lot. The home has vinyl sidingm three bedrooms and one and a half baths.

Applicants must meet the following stipulations:

Must be residents of Massachusetts.

Must be a first-time homebuyer (not had home ownership in the past three years).

Total household income cannot exceed the amounts per the following table:

1 Person $41,450

2 Persons $47,350

3 Persons $53,300

4 Persons $59,200

5 Persons $63,950

6 Persons $68,650

Preference is given to larger households.

Applicants must submit a mortgage pre-approval letter from a lending institution with the completed application.

According to mass.gov, the town of East Longmeadow must meet a 10 percent "goal for low- and moderate-income housing. It includes both subsidized affordable units and market rate units in certain eligible subsidized developments."

"This is a program that was put together to give city and towns greater flexibitility in their efforts to provide affordable housing to those with low and moderate incomes," said Joe Townshend, Board of Selectmen member and liasion to the Housing Partnership Committee.

Those who are interested can pick up the Housing Partnership Affordable Home Application form at the Selectmen's Office in East Longmeadow, 60 Center Square, East Longmeadow, weekdays between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. The completed form should be returned to said office on or before Aug. 11 or brought to the Housing Partnership Committee on Aug. 12. This meeting will take place between 7 and 8 p.m. in the Hearing Room at the East Longmeadow Town Hall, 60 Center Square.

The Aug. 12 meeting will be the final opportunity to submit completed applications. At that time, applicants' questions will be addressed and applications reviewed.
