EAST LONGMEADOW -- The next meeting of the East Longmeadow High School 50th Birthday Party Committee will take place March 1 at 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium of East Longmeadow High School.

"The meeting is really, really important -- I want to get the word out," Rosemarie Molinari Myers, event organizer, told Reminder Publications. "At this meeting we will finalize the class lists and finalize the letter, e-mail and details of the final celebration."

Everyone who has attended the school, "any past or present student, their parents, children, former teachers, anyone living in East Longmeadow, is invited to the event," Myers said.

She expects to be sending out the invitations between March 15 and 20.

Myers said since her appearance on Jack Villamaino's ELCAT talk show, "Around the Rotary," "there's been so much talk about [the birthday celebration] that I can't imagine how many people are going to be there."

She stressed that the meeting is not just for people who are interested in helping with the event, but also for "people who want more information."

Myers said she felt it's critical that people get as much information about the event as possible as quickly as possible because, even though the party is slated for the Fourth of July weekend in 2011, she needs commitments on tickets to the event by June 1, 2010.

Myers explained that she has two potential venues on hold for the gala -- and the number of tickets reserved by June 1 will determine which place she reserves.

"In order to guarantee a ticket, [attendees] must send in a $25 non-refundable deposit by June 1," she explained.

The planned schedule of events for the 2011 celebration is as follows:

• July 1, 2011: An open house (ticket required) at East Longmeadow High School. A video donated by Myers Video Productions of East Longmeadow will be shown in the auditorium showcasing the last 50 years. The committee is planning to have teachers from throughout the years be in their department rooms so that they can greet visitors. Booths for organizations that provide fundraising efforts for the high school are also planned. Much more is still to come.

• July 2, 2011: The 50th Birthday Party Gala (ticket required) at a location to be determined. The gala will take place from 6 p.m. to midnight. There will be dinner and dancing, and banners will be placed around the room representing the different decades so that people will be able to congregate to those areas to find former classmates more easily. Name tags, color coded by decade, will also be worn to find former classmates easier.

• July 3, 2011: East Longmeadow is known for its carnival and fireworks. Todd Mackechnie, who has run the carnival and fireworks for the past six years, is offering to do something special for the 50th birthday party. Much more is still to come.

• July 4, 2011: The committee will be creating a float for the East Longmeadow Fourth of July parade wishing the high school a happy 50th birthday, and is planning to have hundreds of students walking with the float.
