EAST LONGMEADOW The ongoing work at the East Longmeadow Rotary is part of the paving contract East Longmeadow put out last fall. The Department of Public Works has done repairs to the town's sewer and storm water systems, particularly the catch basin and the gas company is currently upgrading their systems beneath the rotary.

"Prior to doing major paving we require any utility companies to go in and do any repairs and upgrades that may be anticipated for their systems. Once we pave we don't want anyone going in and digging up that pavement for at least five years," Department of Public Works Senior Project Manager Sean P. Kelley, explained. "They are upgrading the pipes that run under the rotary and they're removing an underground vault, a fairly large concrete chamber. There are pressure regulating valves within that chamber. They are removing the vault and they are going to be placing a new vault on Brooks Street."

Kelley said the original deadline for the gas company to be finished was mid-June.

"We want to get it finished well in advance of the Fourth of July. Once the gas company got into their project they realized it was larger than they anticipated," Kelley said, adding that the company will not be out of the rotary until mid July.

The gas company has been instructed, and have agreed to make sure the surface of the rotary is in safe condition in time for the parade.
