School district seeks parental participants

EAST LONGMEADOW East Longmeadow Public Schools are asking for parents of students to take five minutes of their time to fill in a simple survey.

Parents are asked to go to www.eastlongmeadowma.gov and click on "ELPS Parent Survey" link to complete the survey.

"The results will be used to help guide decisions regarding next year's school calendar and other issues," Dr. Edward Costa, Superintendent of Schools, said.

Questions are on topics such as uniforms, start and end times of school and more.

"The survey is extremely easy and painless. So far, we are in the survey's sixth day [Oct. 9] and already, 337 parents have completed it," Costa commented.

The survey is made up of 21 questions and the majority of those are simple yes or no questions.

The last survey of this kind was five years ago and was conducted by postcard.

"The one five years ago went really well. This survey is the latest one in recent memory. Using the technology, we are saving money because there is no postage to or from. Also, the survey can be tallied automatically and the results posted easier and faster," Costa said.

Once the results are collected at the end of the month, they will be posted online during the first week of November. Parents can then view the results.

Because of how the survey is being conducted, only one survey per computer can be submitted. This keeps the survey fair to everyone. The survey is completely anonymous so all that is submitted is opinions.
