Selectmen announce forum and FEMA assistance

EAST LONGMEADOW The Board of Selectmen last week made announcements regarding disaster assistance and animal by-laws in town.



Public Forum



The Board of Selectmen announced that a public forum will be held to discuss animal by-laws on Nov. 28 at 6:30 p.m. in the Town Hall Hearing Room. The forum will allow citizens to present concerns and pose solutions relative to problems with tethering, penning, and hoarding of pets.

It will also address nuisance issues such as animals running loose, barking, etc.

Martylee Caramante, Dog Officer for the town, will moderate the forum.

Applying for Disaster Assistance



The Board of Selectmen last week announced that residents may apply for disaster assistance related to the flooding in October. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is accepting applications. Residents may apply by telephone at 1-800-621-FEMA (1-800-621-3362). The number for TTY service is 1-800-462-7585.

Residents may also apply online at: http://www.fema.gov.

Residents are asked to have the following information available when applying: Social Security Number (and that of their spouse); private insurance information (if available); address and ZIP code of the damaged property; directions to the damaged property and a daytime telephone number.

Types of assistance available include housing, repair, replacement, and other needs including medical, dental, personal property and transportation.
