EAST LONGMEADOW – Pleasant View Senior Center in East Longmeadow is hosting a Safety Fair on June 22 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. to help residents, specifically those with disabilities and caregivers, to gain information regarding safety and emergency preparedness.
Program and Volunteer Coordinator at Pleasant View Alicia Smith explained that the idea for the Safety Fair came about when she saw that Northampton’s COA would be offering one.
“The idea intrigued me so I reached out to them to get more information and decided that it would be a great event for us to pursue,” Smith said.
The Safety Fair will provide education to both seniors in the community, their caregivers and families in reference to not only their physical safety, but their financial safety, identity theft, medical equipment safety and more.
“They will also have the opportunity to complete a health care proxy, have a hearing screening, bring in medications for pharmacists to look over, sign up fro an AARP Safe Drivers Course that will be held here at the center on Monday June 25, and meet some of our local emergency personnel,” Smith explained.
In addition to everything offered, those in attendance will be able to join in a panel discussion at 11 a.m. by DaLonn Pearson who works for the Mass Office on Disability.
“He will be discussing emergency preparedness relating to those with disabilities and their caregivers, but all are welcome to sit in and ask questions,” she shared.
The Safety Fair is free, as are all of the services being offered that day. The Pleasant View Senior Center is located at 328 North Main St. in East Longmeadow. Refreshments will be served and raffle prizes will be offered.
