EAST LONGMEADOW The Greek Orthodox Church of St. Luke hopes to have a 3,200 square foot addition to the church completed by January 2006.

On July 10, St. Luke's hosted a groundbreaking ceremony and Father Michael Sitaras told Reminder Publications that construction could start some time later this week.

Sitaras said the additonal space was needed for many reasons.

"We needed the space for the Sunday school and for other events that are important to us," said Sitaras, adding that they needed a library and meeting room.

While they currently have a small library, Sitaras said "this (library) would be a real space for the books and also a board room."

"[It's also] going to be an addition of nine new classrooms," he added.

Sitaras said the library would be open to church members and anyone who would like to come to the church.

"It will be a lending and reference library," he explained.

The Greek Orthodox Church of St. Luke is located at 400 Prospect Street in East Longmeadow.
