Alicsia O'Connor, Christina Palazzi, Shelley Kennedy and Kelly Nichols were chosen to represent the salon and they have been undergoing rigorous preparation for the event, according to Barbara Sorcinelli, general manager of Visual Changes.
"You have to be prepared to work on the fly and come into help if another team falls apart, which is something we've been asked to do before [at other fashion shows]," Sorcinelli explained of the fast-paced, high-pressure environment. "[Our stylists] are all qualified. These girls are part of our 'To-Go Team,' that has done magazine work and commercials with professional photographers and stylists.
"There were 30 salons in New England invited and no one in Western Massachusetts, except for us. It's really a huge honor to be involved in something like that. All the connections in the world can't necessarily get you in [to Fashion Week]. This is something that you can't go out and solicit for. Unless you have a personal relationship with a designer you can't put your name in. Mark [Maruca, owner of Visual Changes] and I can't even go and watch. Tickets are all sold out. [Our designers] can't go in the tent and watch the work," she continued.
The key to style and presentation on Sept. 30 is fabric and texture, according to O'Connor.
"We're really looking at the trend visions for the following year and looking at hair in fabric ways to create new images. Right now in my hair I have a bow and it's made out of my own hair. Braiding is huge right now so we're using our tools in different ways and making it look more like fabric," she explained. "We're very excited to display everything that we have going on here at Visual Changes."
