Thompson seeks re-election to School Committee

Date: 6/1/2017

EAST LONGMEADOW – East Longmeadow High School graduate, former elementary school teacher, past President of East Longmeadow Soccer Association, former member of the St. Michael's Pastoral Council, current Eucharistic Minister at St. Michael's Church and small business owner of Stripes Lawn Service, LLC—Greg Thompson is running for re-election to East Longmeadow's School Committee.

Throughout his tenure as a School Committee member, Thompson has been involved in a series of projects.  He was a part of the search and transition to finding the current superintendent and assistant superintendent.  Thompson was a member of the design committee for the completion of the East Longmeadow High School stadium project.  He's continuing to pursue funding for the potential new high school with the Massachusetts School Building Authority.  He has played a role in securing funding for new elementary playgrounds.

Thompson also has been a part of the negotiating team for past teachers contracts, which he believes have produced fiscally responsible and mutually beneficial agreements.

“I want to continue to see our school system thrive and succeed into the 21st century.  I have served on the board for nine years and I have the interest and expertise, insight and wisdom to help lead the district in providing a top quality education to our students of East Longmeadow,” Thompson said.

Though balancing both immediate and long-term concerns within the school district was challenging at times, Thompson is determined to continue to improve student achievement in an effort to prepare students for college, the workplace, and life in general.  He also wants to continue to oversee the collective bargaining agreements with different school unions.  Finally, Thompson would like to increase communication between the schools, town and the community.

Thompson has two children in the East Longmeadow school system and has been married to his wife, Jennifer, for the past 17 years, who is also an East Longmeadow High School graduate.
