EAST LONGMEADOW – In conjunction with East Longmeadow Community Access Television (ELCAT), the East Longmeadow Recreation Department has started their “Play and Learn at Home Initiative,” which includes fun ways for people of all ages to keep busy and active without leaving the comfort of their own homes.
East Longmeadow Recreation Director Donna Prather explained to Reminder Publishing that ELCAT has been a partner with the department to create videos and work with members of the public to “engage people at home.”
She explained that on ELCAT’s YouTube page, ELCAT01028, there is now a “Play and Learn at Home” section which explains “during these times, the East Longmeadow Recreation Department and ELCAT are teaming up to bring our residents additional resources to remain active.”
This section of the YouTube page is host to 35 videos – and counting – that offers unique experiences for families to enjoy. For instance, in one video, ELCAT highlights informational videos on animals that the Mystic Aquarium is posting to their Facebook page. In another, viewers – particularly viewers who have children – would enjoy learning a step-by-step guide on how to make paper clay.
The videos are not made for only children, though. One video shows Kelly Phillips of Totally Adaptive Fitness doing an at-home workout, while another video series produced by Albert Grimaldi and presented by Gary Lefort brings the classroom to homes by teaching world geography.
Prather explained there is even a video showing a tennis coach completing tennis exercises in a driveway, and soon there will be an instructional golf video.
“It’s a way to try to get people engaged at home, letting them know that we haven’t forgotten about them,” Prather said. “We’re trying to adapt to our new surroundings.”
Information and resources that residents can access in regard to the Play and Learn at Home Initiative can be found on the recreation department’s Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/eastlongmeadowrec/ or on ELCAT’s YoutTube page https://www.youtube.com/user/ELCAT01028.
