EAST LONGMEADOW – At East Longmeadow’s Annual Town Election on June 5, after a long campaign, Sarah Truoiolo was voted to the open School Committee seat.
Truoiolo is a life-long Western Massachusetts resident. She attended Smith College and majored in Education and Child Study. She graduated Cum Laude, and went on to attend the University of Pennsylvania where she received her Masters in Education.
In the fall of 2005 Truoiolo began to work for the Springfield Public School system. She began as a second grade teacher and seven years later transitioned to becoming a Math Instructional Leadership Specialist. In 2014, she started her current position as the supervisor of Mathematics for the Springfield Public School system. Presently, she oversees 60 Springfield schools by supervising curriculums, instruction, assessment and professional development.
Truoiolo’s husband, Tony, is a lifelong East Longmeadow resident. In 2009, the newly married couple purchased their first home in East Longmeadow. “We saw East Longmeadow as the perfect fit for raising our family,” Truoiolo said. The couple has two children who are going to be going through the East Longmeadow Public School system.
Truoiolo won the election against her opponent Susan Mantoni by a mere 190 votes. Truoiolo received 664 votes, and Mantoni 474.
“Thank you to all the family, friends and residents of East Longmeadow that supported my campaign for School Committee! I am truly overwhelmed! I’d like to congratulate Susan Mantoni on her campaign and wish her well. I’m extremely eager to begin working alongside my fellow School Committee members in service of the students, families and residents of East Longmeadow as we continue to move our district forward!” Truoiolo said in a statement to Reminder Publications.
In addition, both Thomas O’Connor and Donald Anderson were voted back onto the Town Council, as the two ran unopposed.
Total votes cast for the election were 1,169 out of 11,675 total registered voters. Roughly 10 percent of East Longmeadow voters participated in the Annual Town Election.
