EAST LONGMEADOW -- Do you have items sitting around your house that you have just been waiting for the opportunity to get rid of? Now is your chance to do that and help out East Longmeadow Public Schools.

Two fundraisers will be hosted on Sept 11 to raise money for schools' Parent-Teacher Organizations (PTO). At the first, hosted by Green Monster E-cycling, volunteers will be collecting used appliances and electronics to be recycled. The other, supported by Bag 2 School, is a clothing drive.

"Over the past few years we had been fortunate enough to have a Caribbean festival that acted as the main fundraiser for the PTO, but that isn't happening anymore," Maria Murphy, one of the coordinators of the events said. "This takes the place of that."

Both events will be hosted the main entrance of East Longmeadow High School from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., rain or shine.

Those who have old appliances can bring them down to the high school and have them taken away for a small fee, which will benefit the PTOs.

The following items are being accepted:

Small appliances will be accepted for a $5 fee. This includes toaster ovens, blenders, computer monitors, computers, laptops, printers, scanners and other office machines as well as VCRs, DVD players, stereos, mp3 players and cell phones or PDAs.

Microwaves, vacuum cleaners, air conditioners and dehumidifiers will be accepted for a $10 fee.

Televisions of any size will be accepted for a $20 fee.

Large appliances, such as freezers and refrigerators will be accepted with a $25 fee.

Large batteries, such as car batteries will be accepted for $2.

Ink and toner cartridges will be accepted, free of charge.

While donating to the recycling drive, anyone who wishes to give to the clothing drive will be able to do so at the same time.

In addition to clean clothes, the clothing drive will be accepting curtains, bedding excluding pillows and duvets soft toys, belts, handbags and shoes. All shoes should be tied together in pairs.

The clothing raised will then be weighed and exchanged for cash, which will go to the PTOs.

The two collections are not limited to town residents. Anyone from the surrounding area who would like to support East Longmeadow Public Schools is encouraged to donate.
