Community rallies to support area resident dealing with serious illnessDate: 4/4/2023 SPRINGFIELD – Members of the community are uniting in support of Ashley Dones-Schipper, a local 25-year-old who was recently diagnosed with stage 3 non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
Carla Carnevale, a colleague and friend of Dones-Schipper, considers her a selfless individual who “will do whatever she can to help others.” She shared that Dones-Schipper has made a substantial impact on the people she’s worked and interacted with throughout Springfield, Ware, Wilbraham and East Longmeadow. She recently worked as the assistant branch manager at the Monson Savings Bank East Longmeadow branch.
“In the past several years she has grown exponentially in her career and along the way has helped hundreds of our community members reach their financial and banking related goals,” said Carnevale.
Dones-Schipper is also known as a dedicated community volunteer. Carnevale shared that Dones-Schipper would frequently commit her time and resources to aid family and community endeavors.
“Truly, Ashley sees her own success as an opportunity to share with others. She is a light in several people’s lives,” said Carnevale.
Dones-Schipper’s sister, Kelsey Cruz-Schipper, has organized a GoFundMe page to help finance the expenses of her treatment. Cruz-Schipper described her sister as a selfless and dedicated individual.
“She has put countless hours into climbing the ladder in her career. She has used this success to help others in need, including her siblings,” said Cruz-Schipper.
Cruz-Schipper said she was inspired to start the GoFundMe so her sister can focus more on getting better than dealing with medical bills.
“She will be undergoing costly treatments and will be unable to work while she is receiving these treatments. Any funds raised will be used to help with medical costs, rent, utilities, insurance and more. Our main goal is to alleviate her financial worries and keep her stress levels low so she can concentrate on healing,” said Cruz-Schipper.
As of press time, the GoFundMe campaign has raised over $7,000 toward its $25,000 goal. Cruz-Schipper expressed her gratitude to supporters of the campaign so far.
“Several people have so generously reached out to us asking how they can help. On behalf of our family and Ashley, we thank everyone who has helped us or asked how they can help,” said Cruz-Schipper. Readers can support Dones-Schipper’s GoFundMe at gofund.me/c3aa226a.
