Republican businessman enters race against NealDate: 8/15/2022 WESTERN MASS. – West Springfield businessman Dean Martilli announced in a campaign kickoff event the last week of June that he is running for Congress against incumbent Richard Neal.
In an interview with Reminder Publishing, he noted he has 100 days to meet with voters and explain his point of view.
“I’ve got a lot of work to do,” he said.
Neal, he said, “has been around a little too long.” He added, “I’m totally opposite from everything he is.”
He said that people ask him what kind of a Republican he is and his reply is, “I’m not a Charlie Baker Republican. I’m not a Trump Republican. I’m a Dean Martilli Republican.”
According to his website, his goals include, “As a member of Congress, Martilli will work to restore the primacy of the Constitution. Most urgently he will pursue measures to reestablish security at our borders and on our streets. He will work to stop judicial activism and selective application of the law. Martilli will oppose limitations of free speech, lockdowns, and restrictions on economic enterprise imposed by bureaucratic mandates in the name of the common good. Martilli will work to return fiscal sanity, to protect our personal freedoms, to restore our energy independence, to strengthen our military.”
He issued a statement about the court-sanctioned FBI action at former President Donald Trump’s Florida home last week. He wrote, “This raid by the FBI is unprecedented in the treatment of a former president. It is beyond appalling to see this type of weaponization of the DOJ [Department of Justice]. This is beyond shameful. Again, we see the FBI being politicized under the guidance and leadership of President [Joe] Biden, Director [Christopher] Wray and Attorney General [Merrick] Garland. Recall that the Russian Misinformation Steele Dossier was the catalyst for the FBI to spy on then-candidate President Trump, was set into action it was by the Obama administration with Biden’s involvement. Segway [sic] to the Mar-a-Lago FBI raid, it is the Biden administration with Obama influence front and center. Coincidence or a pattern? If a president of the United States can be spied on then what about us? If a president’s family can be threatened and harassed then what about us? The government has unlimited amounts of money to investigate private citizens but do you have the money to defend yourself? By going after the DC establishment President Trump has endeared himself to the hearts of many Americans who have felt the overreach of local, state, and federal governments. As President Trump has said, ‘They are not coming after me, they are coming after you.’”
Martilli has not always been a Republican, however. He said he served for two years as the chief of staff for former Democratic Congressman Patrick Kennedy of Rhode Island.
He believes the Democratic Party has moved away from supporting the working man.
He said he came to his decision to run based on what he has seen his clients have been going through – he works as a business consultant. He noted the “country is changing,” with changes coming faster due to the coronavirus pandemic.
“People have changed a lot – some ways good and some ways horrible,” he said.
He expressed concern about the cost of gasoline and food and called the crisis concerning baby formula “totally inexcusable.”
He said his number one issue is to “bring jobs back in manufacturing.” He added, “We need communities back that are based around jobs. We need to return to that.”
He is critical of the Green New Deal, saying it has no plan or action, and he stressed the country needs to be energy independent. He added the move to be carbon neutral is “a scam.”
“There are a lot of control issues,” he alleged. “Where are we going with this?’
“We got to use common sense. We got to use our eyes,” he said.
