HOLYOKE -- Peace Week will continue as a Holyoke tradition, but there are some changes planned for the annual event this year.

Mayor Elaine A. Pluta told Reminder Publications the need for a week-long series of events to think about peace is still necessary.

The theme this year is "Speak Up For Yourself, Speak Out For Others, Seek Peacemakers!"

This year's kick-off celebration will be Nov. 14. at the War Memorial Hall, 310 Appleton St., from 2 to 4 p.m.

There will be performances by Holyoke school choirs, displays made by the Holyoke Schools, local food vendors, and youth art activities. The peace banner will be on display for anyone who wishes to make a pledge for peace and to sign the banner.

Pluta decided to eliminate the annual dinner that usually occupied the start of the week-long series of events.

Following the kick-off, the art displays and exhibits can be viewed at Heritage State Park Visitors Center throughout the month of November.

Peace Week will conclude on Nov. 21 at Heritage State Park at 2 p.m. with Pluta leading a peace march.

All events are free.
