In the event of an emergency, first responders in Holyoke have started the Knox Box program. This program allows emergency responders entrance to a resident’s home, should an emergency occur. The fire department installs key vaults outside the door of residents’ homes, and every truck in the Fire Department has a key to the box so that rescuers can enter the home if the person inside is unable to answer the door.
Residents can apply for the box, and the Holyoke Fire Department will come to the home and install it for free. At the same time, the Fire Department will also make sure there are working smoke and carbon monoxide detectors in the home. In addition, they will sit with the resident to fill out a medical form that will aid EMS when they arrive on scene. Holyoke residents can apply for a Knox Box by contacting the Holyoke Fire Department Fire Prevention Bureau at 534-2254 Monday - Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. or by email at fireprevention@holyoke.org.
Continuing in the coming year will be “Tech support with Wayne” on Jan. 12 and Jan. 26, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. in the Learning Center.
