Holyoke Farmers Market opens for new season

Date: 6/11/2019

HOLYOKE – While it’s still early in the Western Massachusetts growing season, Jeff Kingsbury of Deerfield will be bringing his first produce to the Holyoke Farmers Market this week.

Kingsbury was one of the vendors at the first market for the season on High Street in front of City Hall.

He is offering flowers and vegetable plant and said if conditions are right, he will have strawberries this week and squash the week following.

This is his second year at the Holyoke markets.

Along with Kingsbury there were a food truck, a veterans services information table and crafters at the initial market.

Candice Pelletier, the market manager, explained to Reminder Publications that as the seasons grows so will the number of vendors. She predicted there would be 12 farmers, five artisans, three to four food trucks and five information booths comprising the market at its peak.

She added special events for the market are being finalized.

As she wrote on the market’s Facebook page, “This is a chance to bring the Holyoke community together around a common cause, fresh food and a better Holyoke. This is a great opportunity to see what the local farms have to offer, make new friends, or enjoy some music on the lawn. Everyone is more than welcome. Please invite friends and family, and we are always looking for more vendors to sell their products at the Market.”

The market will run every Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. until Sept. 26. Pelletier said at that point a winter version of the market would start at an indoor location still to be determined.
