HOLYOKE – Holyoke Gas and Electric (HG&E) is once again bringing back their holiday discount and fuel assistance opportunities to help out those feeling the financial pressures of the holiday season.
Last month, Holyoke Gas and Electric’s Commission approved an extra 10 percent prompt payment discount on energy services billed during the December cycle. In addition to the holiday discount, HG&E has a variety of resources that can assist customers who are facing financial hardship, including payment plans, energy efficiency programs and connections to fuel assistance programs.
“HG&E is pleased to offer our customers an additional discount during the holidays, especially this year,” said HG&E’s Commission Chairman Fran Hoey. “We understand many customers are facing a difficult and uncertain times and hope our efforts will help to alleviate some of that concern during this holiday season.”
The discount comes in as timely as ever as inflation and the rise of costs on everyday expenses has created challenges for residents and families and HG&E is attempting to help with that impact. HG&E has implemented a holiday discount each year since 1992 as the now 30-year tradition was created with the intention of providing relief to customers and the local economy during the holiday season.
According to a release from HG&E, the average homeowner who heats with natural gas will save about $83 through the combined discounts (prompt payment and holiday discount) on their bill. This discount applies to commercial and residential gas and electricity customers who are not already participating in an economic development discount program.
“All of us here at HG&E offer our best wishes for a warm and bright holiday season,” said General Manager Jim Lavelle.
Director of Marketing and Communications for HG&E Kate Sullivan added that for the last three decades HG&E has tried to help out during the holiday season and once again they are back when many could really use the relief.
“As a local community utility, we understand the rising cost of everyday expenses, including energy, is having an impact on our customers and we continue to seek opportunities to provide discounts, payment plans, energy efficiency incentives and connections to fuel assistance programs,” said Sullivan. “We are proud to offer this additional discount during this holiday season and encourage customers to keep in touch with HG&E if they experience any financial hardship during this winter season. We are here to help!”
