HOLYOKE – The Parks & Recreation Commission hosted a meeting on Dec 2. to discuss the status updates of repairs and work being done in the local parks and fields. Parks and Recreation Assistant Director Maureen Tisdale provided Reminder Publishing with updates.
Meyer Field
Meyer Field park is in the process of being renovated. “The crosswalks have been installed, and the new playground equipment has been ordered with a timeline of spring installation,” Tisdale said. She noted that they are experiencing delays in receiving playground equipment “overall” due to COVID-19 supply and shipping chain delays; therefore, plans are being pushed back following when the pieces come in.
Springdale Master Plan
Some of the playground equipment has already been installed, and they are installing it as they receive each part. Tisdale said that “a good chunk of it is already up,” and they will finish in the spring. She noted that they are only waiting on a few parts.
Jackson Handball Court
The city engineer is in the “early stages” of working on a design for the new handball courts at the basketball court located on Canal Street.
Roberts Field Repairs
Tisdale reported that repairs were made to the track in the late fall of 2021 “because of cracks and other issues that needed to be fixed.”
Community Field – Ice Skating Path
Due to the ice skating path being refrigerated, its annual inspection has been completed to “make sure everything is working correctly,” and they are waiting on a report before it can reopen again for the season, Tisdale said.
Ely Park/Myriam Miranda Court
A bronze tablet dedicated from the family of Myriam Miranda in her memory at Ely Park is in the wording and design process.
