Morse restores budget for media teacher

Date: 8/7/2015

HOLYOKE – The position of audio/video production instructor at Holyoke High School will continue for this upcoming school year.

William Glidden, the spokesperson for Mayor Alex Morse, explained to Reminder Publications the teaching position has been reinstated due to Morse's allocation of $90,000 of funds paid to the city by Comcast.

Glidden added the schools receiver Dr. Stephen Zrike found additional funds in the existing School Department budget. Glidden was not sure at this time how much of the budget was used along with the $90,000 to restore the job.

He said the restoration of the job is permanent. Between 15 to 20 students would have been affected by the loss of the teacher and the move ensures the media elective will continue at Holyoke High School.

“Restoring this position and keeping the media elective open was a top priority of mine, because I understand the importance of giving our students options and encouraging their creativity” Morse said. "I applaud the School Committee for its advocacy on this issue, and thank Dr. Zrike for allocating the necessary resources to give this important elective open to our kids."??

According to Glidden, more funds will be available to the city due to the new contract negotiated with Comcast.
