HOLYOKE – On Aug. 8, JNP Designz will host a Summer Luau themed Pop-Up Shop event from 12-4 p.m. on the second floor at 453 High St.
"This is our first pop up event and we're doing it right here in Holyoke," said Owner Jonathan Nunez-Provost. "I've been in Holyoke my whole life, so I wanted to do the first event here. We wanted to show that we can do something nice here in our own community. The whole design of the Luau will be Tiki inspired. We have about 15-plus vendors right now all from the area. We will have a food truck outside. Some vendors will have baked goods and other vendors will have raffles at their tables where people can win gift baskets."
JNP Designz is a graphic design company that creates business cards, logo designs, custom apparels and graphics, invitations, banners and backdrops for small local businesses.
JNP Designz started in 2011 where Provost said it was something he did for fun. He attended William J. Dean Technical High School and was on the graphic arts program learning photo shop and silk screen printing.
"I really had a big interest in it and was doing art work for local musicians and events for free," Provost replied. "It picked up a lot of attraction over the years, so I started turning it from a hobby into a business. Now, we're helping local businesses, promoters, events to find the graphics that they need and to work with other locals in areas."
Originally, Provost said he was only interested in screen printing and was working at different screen print factories for a couple of years. Due to the pandemic, the factories closed down and Provost lost his job. Ultimately, he decided to turn his side business of designing into a full-time business. With this upcoming event, Provost told Reminder Publishing he's hopeful that a lot of people will come out. It's a free event for families to bring their children and have a good time. If the turnout is great, Provost said he would like to have a Christmas pop up shop at the same location in mid-December where there'll be time for the vendors to have Christmas-inspired items and decor throughout the event.
"We're hoping that this is something people can look forward to, enjoy music, food and shopping for the whole family," Provost added. "I'm really hoping for a round two of this. We definitely have to play it by ear and see how this one goes, but I'm hopeful for it."
