SOUTH HADLEY – Feeding people is Jake Perkins’ passion.

Perkins and Deb Flynn are co-owners of the Sláinte Restaurant at 80 Jarvis Ave., Holyoke, and they pride themselves in offering seasonal comfort food. Flynn is also owner of the Eastside Grill in Northampton.

“I’m a food person and want to serve people,” said Perkins of Holyoke, who recently spoke with Reminder Publications in the restaurant’s terrace area, which overlooks the scenic Pioneer Valley.

After opening the restaurant in March and joining the Holyoke Rotary, Perkins knew he wanted to give back to the community that had supported their new endeavor.

“Cooking is what I know and I’m comfortable doing,” said Perkins, who decided a dinner to benefit Providence Ministries in Holyoke would be an ideal way to give back to others less fortunate.

The dinner is planned for Nov. 15 in the social center at St. Theresa of Lisieux Parish, 9 East Parkview Drive. Tickets are $30 for adults and $15 for children. The deadline to purchase tickets is Nov. 12.

Perkins’ menu features three entrée choices – chorizo stuffed chicken breast over roasted root vegetables, Guinness short ribs with mashed potatoes, or stuffed acorn squash, accompanied by salad and a chocolate dessert.

A cocktail hour is planned from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 6:30. A basket of cheer raffle and a 50/50 drawing are also planned.

“The event will be the start of the holiday season and it promises to be a great time,” said Perkins.

Proceeds raised from the event will benefit the programs of Providence Ministries which includes Broderick House, Kate’s Kitchen, Margaret’s Pantry, St. Jude’s Clothing Center, Mother Mary’s and Loreto’s House.

“I would love to see more than 150 area residents turn out for this event, and I would like the benefit dinner to become an annual event,” he added.

Tickets are available online at www.provministries.com, or at its offices at 51 Hamilton St., Holyoke. Tickets are also available at Cinderelli’s, 540 Newton St., South Hadley, and The Cottage and Nick’s Nest, both on Northampton Street in Holyoke.
