GRANBY – A dedicated group of volunteers known as Granby SOARS (Spirit Of All Recreation Society) has put out the call for contestants for its second annual Free-Style, Chili Cook Off at Dufresne Park.

The spirited event at 32 Kendall St. is planned Sept. 14 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is open to the public. Awards will be given to the top three winners as well as a People’s Choice Award.

“Invite your friends to see you compete or to vote for the People’s Choice Award,” said Diane Piquette, director, Granby SOARS, during an interview with Reminder Publications.

Piquette noted that the entry fee for contestants is $25 and a public sampling will cost $5 and will include three samples, chips and a beverage.

“All proceeds benefit Dufresne Park,” she added.

Granby SOARS provides assistance with maintaining the park, raising funds, and planning events, which in turn helps keep the park current and safe, according to Piquette.

Volunteers are always welcome to join the ranks of the group and more information will be available during the fundraiser.

For more information and to download a contract form, visit www.granbysoars.com or send an email to granbysoars@gmail.com.

Individuals interested in being a contestant should send their name and contract information together with a $25 check made payable to Granby SOARS to 17 High St. Granby, MA 01033. An email confirmation will be sent in return with all logistical information.

The deadline to sign up to participate is Sept. 1.
