South Hadley Town Meeting Review Committee to host hearing

April 14, 2010SOUTH HADLEY - The Town Meeting Review Committee, which was established at the Annual Town Meeting of 2009, will host a public hearing on April 20 at 7 p.m. in the Select Board meeting room. The committee is recommending the following six bylaw or charter changes at the May 8 Town Meeting:
• A bylaw making the newly formed Town Meeting Electronic Committee a standing committee of South Hadley.
• A bylaw that will require all town committees and boards to post the minutes of their meetings on the town's Web site.
• A bylaw changing the date of the Annual Town Meeting from the second Saturday in May to the second Tuesday evening in May and June.
• A charter change that would eliminate the voting rights of Ex Officio Town Meeting members unless they are elected by their precinct.
• A bylaw that will establish the Town Meeting Review Committee to be appointed every five years beginning with 2015.
• A charter change that will require all Town Meeting Members running for re-election to file nomination papers with the Town Clerk.
All Town Meeting members are encouraged to attend the public hearing to gain a better understanding of what is being proposed. Committee members will be available to answer questions about the proposed changes.
