HOLYOKE- Following the success of last year's Summer Book Exchange, Holyoke Mayor Michael J. Sullivan announced the running of the Third Annual literary initiative. The program promotes literacy in Holyoke. Books can be exchanged or donated to the program. All books are appreciated, however paperback books are preferred. Books for any age group and genre can be dropped off or picked up at either the Farmer's Market on Thursdays between 11:30- 3:30 p.m. or the Mayor's Office during July and August.

"Over the past two years, the exchange has included over a thousand books. The exchange is very unique and Sullivan believes that the program will help promote literacy in Holyoke," Mayoral Aide Jennifer Perez said. Readers are encouraged to critique the book on the title page or on the inside cover. They can also leave their name or email address so that the reader can have a dialog with other readers of the same book.

Sullivan commented on the program, "We hope this will be fun and stimulate people's interest in reading. You probably will never see your book again, but hopefully you are gratified that someone else had the opportunity to read it and their day has been brightened by that book."
