Volleyball Hall of Fame brings in top national teams for annual tournament

SPRINGFIELD Winter heats up fast in New England when the Volleyball Hall of Fame hosts the sizzling play of top collegiate Division I men's teams.

The 19th annual Volleyball Hall of Fame Morgan Classic will be held at Springfield College on Feb. 10 and 11 and is guaranteed to bring you the best of big-time volleyball.

This year's event will feature Stanford University, Penn State University, Ohio State University and four-time Div. III national champions Springfield College.

The opening night matches at Blake Arena have Penn State facing Ohio State at 6 p.m. and Springfield battling Stanford at 8 p.m. Saturday concludes with a Penn State - Stanford match at 6 p.m. and a Springfield - Ohio State match at 8:00 p.m.

"This is the best men's collegiate volleyball you can see on the East coast," says Hall of Fame President Jerry Fitzsimons. "It is a great family night out, especially for those new to volleyball."

Tickets cost $5 for adults and $3 for youth and students.

The Morgan Classic Players Clinic and the Morgan Classic Coaches Clinic will be offered this year at Springfield College on Feb. 11. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn skills from the players and coaches from the tournament teams. Springfield Coach Charlie Sullivan will instruct the Coaches Clinic.

The fee for each clinic is $50 per person and includes one ticket to Saturday evening's matches.

"These clinics are highly regarded for their active-player format, and folks travel from as far as Pennsylvania and Maine to attend. We suggest that people sign up early as the clinics sellout every year," said Sullivan.
