HOLYOKE — Wistariahurst Museum is returning their Holiday Open House and Festive Market on December 2 and 3 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and are welcoming the public to their decked halls.
The beloved museum will once again be filled with holiday decorations and feature the festive market with local vendors ready to help jumpstart holiday shopping. This is the third year of the Holiday Open House and Festive Market and was started by Museum Director Megan Seiler coming out of the coronavirus pandemic in an effort to bring people back together for holiday festivities.
“Our Holiday Open House is the event I look forward to the most throughout the year,” Seiler said. “It’s so delightful to see everyone filled with excitement for the holidays, and to celebrate that with them inside our museum is amazing.”
Seiler said the event creates a great way for people to support local businesses through the market and also experience the Wistariahurst museum. She added from her experience half the people who visited the event last year were also visiting the museum for the first time.
“Sometimes people drive by, and they don’t really know how open we are, and I just think having an open house like this where its free and fun and festive is a really great way to welcome everyone in and say hey, ‘we have fun here, there is joy here and we want you here,” Seiler said.
The event also will feature a story time with Mrs. Claus where children will receive a free dual language book for English and Spanish speakers.
Local vendors inside the Festive Market will offer an array of products such as art, treats, jewelry and many other homemade items from local small businesses and artists, perfect for holiday gift exchanges this season. The two-day event is free and open to the public in hopes for as many interested as possible to be able to celebrate the season and create holiday memories.
“I love this event because it brings a lot of life to the house. It brings a lot of really positive energy and to see people connect with one another or see someone they haven’t seen in a while at the museum or meet a new small business they can support, its just a really wonderful way to remind people this is a community space, and a space people can gather,” Seiler said. “Things have been hard for a while, and it gets dark so early so just being able to come out and have a nice day no matter the weather because its inside is really fun. It’s just all about recognizing whose part of our community and making sure that everyone feels welcomed.”
