Wistariahurst Museum hosts concert of New England composers Nov. 27

HOLYOKE A concert of New England composers from the 20th Century Concert to benefit Wistariahurst will take place on Nov. 27 at 4 p.m. Join Joel Pitchon, violin and Clifton J. Noble, piano. The program features Sonata for violin and piano (1939) by Walter Piston, Sonata No. 2 for violin and piano by Quincy Porter, Partita for violin and piano by Charles M. Loeffler, and a selection of pieces by Mrs. H.H.A. Beach. Tickets are $6 and $3 for seniors and students.

Joel Pitchon is an Associate Professor of violin and chamber music at Smith College and a graduate of the Julliard School. He is currently a member of the Forster String Trio and the Smith Chamber Ensemble. He has performed in many concerts in the U.S. and abroad with Orpheus Chamber Orchestra. He has a new recording of four Sonatas for violin and piano by Clifton J. Noble soon to be released on the Gasparo label.

Jerry Noble is the Staff Accompanist for the Smith College Music Department, and since 1987, the accompanist to the Glee Club and Chamber Singers. Since 1988, he has written articles pertaining to music for the Springfield Republican newspaper. Jerry is a prolific composer and arranger, and recently had one of his works premiered by the Holyoke Civic Symphony.

Wistariahurst Museum is located at 238 Cabot St. (at the corner of Beech St.) in Holyoke MA. Wistariahurst is the former home of the Skinner family, manufacturers who made a large fortune producing silks and satins in Holyoke from 1874 to 1961. The twenty-six room mansion is open to the public as an historic house museum that explores the lifestyle of the manufacturing elite and the workers who made that lifestyle possible.
