LONGMEADOW – The Longmeadow Adult Community Center has received its temporary certificate of occupancy, but the facility won’t be open for services until at least Nov. 1, according to an announcement made on the town’s Facebook page.
Originally slated to be open this summer, completion of the new building has run into several snags.
On Aug. 2, Mary Beth Bergeron, chair of the Longmeadow Permanent Town Building Committee and a member of the Longmeadow Council of Aging Board of Directors, told the Select Board that the grounds had been seeded and mulched incorrectly and the soil used was deficient to grow plants.
More importantly, the parking lot’s material had been applied poorly and there was defective workmanship in the lot’s top coat.
"The contractor has agreed to remediate the soil conditions at the site. We are continuing to work with the contractor on resolution of the parking lot issues and are hopeful that they will be resolved soon,” said Janine McVay of the Longmeadow Adult Community Center Fund, an organization that has raised money to furnish the center and provide for programming.
