Annual Long Meddowe Days

There will be arts, crafts, entertainment and much more at this annual event, including photography from Jack and Nancy Holowitz, like the image above.
The Long Meddowe Days committee is pleased to announce the 28th Annual Long Meddowe Days to be held May 18-20.

On May 18 Long Meddowe Days will kick off the start of a fun-filled family weekend with the traditional family picnic on the green as well as a concert by Meghann Fahy and Noah Lis.

Fahy, a senior at Longmeadow High School, has already recorded and put out her first album entitled, "Fate." Lis, a 14-year-old vocalist from Western Massachusetts, has just finished recording his first album titled "Simple Things." Long Meddowe Days publicity chair Sonja Ashe said "Fahy and Lis are local favorites and we anticipate a good crowd."

On May 19, residents can enjoy the 1st Annual Pancake

Breakfast. The cost is $5 and will be held at the Community House from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Going on at the same time as the breakfast, residents can catch the beginning and end of the Annual Tim Paige 5K Memorial Road Race. The race will feature both walkers and runners and begins at 7:30 a.m. with the running race beginning at 8 a.m. The race will start from Storrs Public Library.

Meanwhile, the annual "Our Town Parade" will be organized in St. Mary's back parking lot beginning at 9 a.m. and ending at Center School.

There will be kids games, crafts, pony rides and a climbing wall for children to enjoy from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. There will also be many crafter booths to visit. Ashe said some of this year's featured artists/crafters include photographers Jack and Nancy Holowitz, ceramics artist Alexandra Geller, woodworker Michael Storer, local mixed media artist Lynn Hurley and oil painter Corrine Chandless.

Also scheduled for Saturday from 1-3 p.m. is an open house at the Storrs House located next to the library. At 1:15pm we will meet behind First Church for a cemetery tour followed by an architectural walking tour.

Saturday and Sunday afternoons will feature performances by the bands from each school in town on the Food Court stage.

Sunday will be highlighted by a Memorial Day service, featuring Colonel Marcel E. Kerdavid, Jr. Commander of the 104th Fighter Wing at Barnes National Guard Base. The service is a tradition at Long Meddowe Days and will commence on the Town Green near the flagpole at Noon.

"We hope that residents and their families will come out and enjoy a weekend of fun, history and community spirit during this annual three day event. There's something for everyone at Long Meddowe Days from the youngest family members to the oldest. It's always interesting to see the local crafter booths, community groups and socialize with friends," said Ashe. All events are open to the public.
