LONGMEADOW Longmeadow resident KC Roffo, in celebrating her tenth birthday, decided she would like to help out Second Chance Ranch by getting donations rather than gifts at her party. She herself rides horses at Shallowbrook in Somers Ct. and loves the sport.

Second Chance Ranch (S.C.R.) is a non-profit, volunteer equine rescue that provides quality care and placement for equines in need. Established in 1996, the main goal of the ranch and its founders Karen and Paul Bacon was to prevent animals from needlessly going to slaughter and to find them loving homes. In Granby, Conn., S.C.R. animals are cared for by a team of dedicated horsemen who volunteer their barns and time to animals in need. All donations go directly to the animals' care. Visit www.scrrescue.org for more information about the rescue and how to help.

Katie Roffo, mother of KC, noted that S.C.R. does not only need money, but they also need volunteers to lend a helping hand. Donations can also be anything from supplies to equipment. KC recently spent the day helping out other volunteers with grooming, feeding, and talking to the horses. She plans on making more trips to the barn to help out in any way she can.
