LONGMEADOW - The American Red Cross hosted a blood drive on Dec. 29 at the Longmeadow Community House, and Sara Raymond, a collections specialist with the Red Cross, said the drive saw a great turnout.

One donor was 17-year-old Gregory St. John of East Longmeadow. He said that since his mother works in the medical field he understands the extraordinary importance of giving blood. "I hope to give every chance I get," he said. This was his second donation, and he was specifically giving red cells instead of whole blood. These cells can be used for trauma, surgery, anemia, any blood loss or blood disorders, such as sickle cell.
