LONGMEADOW At their June 6 meeting, the Longmeadow Select Board set June 21 as the day to host a Special Town Meeting.

The purpose of the meeting is to appropriate $626,000 in funds. This comes after the Proposition 2 1/2 override failed.

"The town is going to increase some lines to facilitate the transition," explained Town Manager Robin Crosbie. "We're not taking anything away from the schools. The school budget will increase by $626,000, adding on to the line item with anticipated revenue."

Initial voting calculations had the level service failing by five votes at the Annual Town Elections. A recount revealed that it had actually failed by six votes _ 2,593 to 2,587. There was also 124 blank votes.

The additional revenue will bring the School Department budget to $43,504,979.

The Special Town Meeting will take place at Longmeadow High School on June 21, at 7:30 p.m.
