Board of Health announces pneumonia vaccine clinic

LONGMEADOW The Longmeadow Board of Health will be holding a Pneumonia Immunization Clinic on Sept. 14, 10 a.m.-noon, at the nurse's office, Greenwood Center, 231 Maple Rd., Longmeadow.

This clinic is open to Longmeadow residents only who are 65 year of age or over or residents of any age who have chronic medical conditions. Individuals who are diabetics, who have asthma, cardiac, lung, or kidney diseases, or have any other medical condition which suppresses immunity are at high risk for complications related to pneumonia and are recommended to be immunized. The pneumonia shot does not need to be administered annually; a minimum interval of at least five years is recommended between shots.

The pneumonia vacation is free for individuals that are Medicare Part B and Medicare Part B HMO subscribers (e.g. Blue Care 65, the Tufts Health Plan "Secure Horizons" and the Harvard Pilgrim Plan "First Seniority"); bring your health insurance membership card to the clinic. The charge for all other individuals is $3.

A reservation for the pneumonia vaccination is required and may be made by calling the Longmeadow Board of Health, 565-4140. The deadline for reservations is Sept. 6.
