LONGMEADOW The Planning Board has 90 days to make a decision about the proposed cell tower filed by Omni Point Holdings, Inc., T-Mobile Wireless, for 260 Meadow Road.

This is the first time a cell tower has been proposed for residential property.

Omni Point will pay an undisclosed lease amount to the property owner.

The 100 foot high tower would cover an area of 60 ft by 60 ft, and is located near Route 91.

"We did ask the applicant if he would consider town land for their cell tower," Planning Board member Walter Gunn said. "It's preferred in the bylaws. He [the representative of the applicant] did not object."

Last Tuesday the Planning Board hosted a public hearing to discuss the tower, and other than asking that the tower is surrounded by shrubs, Gunn said none of the neighbors present objected.

The Zoning Board of Appeals will continue their discussion on Omni Point on July 11.

"They have to get a special permit from the Zoning Board of Appeals because of special use of residential property," Gunn added.

Omni Point Holdings, Inc., T-Mobile Wireless currently has a cell tower on Pondside Road and and an antenna on the steeple of The First Church of Christ on Williams Street.
