Chamber Music Society to present winter concert

The Longmeadow Chamber Music Society will present their winter concert on Jan. 16 at 8 p.m. at the First Church of Christ in Longmeadow. The concert will feature music for piano and strings: the J.S. Bach "Trio Sonata in G major," Antonin Dvorak's "Bagatelles" and Franz Schubert's "Trio in B flat. op 99."



The performers will be Joel Pitchon and Marsha Harbison, violinists; Marie-Volcy Pelletier, cellist; and Alissa Leiser, pianist. Alissa Leiser, who will be performing for the first time with the Longmeadow Chamber Music Society, is currently teaching at Amherst College. A graduate of Juilliard, she has performed in numerous concert series, with orchestras, and on television and radio broadcasts in New England, New York and Chicago. Her CD, "Sounds of America," with flutist Adrianne Greenbaum, was featured on NPR as part of the Presidential Inauguration celebration in 1992.



Pitchon is an Associate Professor of violin and chamber music at Smith College. He is currently a member of the Smith Chamber Ensemble, the New Baroque Soloists and has been a member of the Walden Chamber Players. He has been concertmaster of numerous orchestras here and abroad, has performed on radio and TV broadcasts and recorded for several labels.



Harbison is the assistant concertmistress of the Springfield Symphony Orchestra. She has performed in New York City, Montreal, numerous music festivals and is a founding member and performer of the Longmeadow Chamber Music Society. She is a graduate of Carleton College and Juilliard.



Pelletier is currently on the faculty of the Greenwood Music Camp and is an adjunct instructor of cello at Smith College. A native of Paris, France, she has performed throughout Europe, England, New York, Boston and New Hampshire.



The concert will last about one and a half hours, will include words about the pieces and composers, and be followed by a reception. Donations of $15 are accepted at the door for nonmembers.



The Longmeadow Chamber Music Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to presenting masterpieces from all periods of music performed by professional musicians of the Pioneer Valley region. It is sponsored by generous donations from Harold Grinspoon, D.J. St. Germain, the Longmeadow Cultural Council, local area businesses and loyal members.
