LONGMEADOW -- The Longmeadow High School Sport and Event Management class has put on another excellent event.

"Cold No More" was a coat drive, with the two sections of Sport and Event Management working together to achieve to a goal of gathering 100 coats. The classes donated 160 coats and a wide variety of hats, mittens, gloves, ski pants and scarves to the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Holyoke.

The coats and other items were donated over the February vacation week.

"It was a very good opening project for the kids. It's nice to see kids that have a lot give to those who don't have as much," John Pantuosco, one of the teachers of the Sport and Event Management class, said.

The classes started out by setting their goal and dividing themselves into event committees. Under the guidance of Pantuosco and fellow teacher Vivian Morse, the students put on a very successful event.

"Setting a realistic goal and getting there is a positive thing. Also, having everything displayed in front [of the Business and Technology Center at LHS] daily reminded us of the goal," Pantuosco commented.

In total, about 40 to 50 students participated in running the event. One of them was Jackie Dunn, a senior at LHS.

"I'm really happy to be a part of the coat drive. It's a really good feeling to be a part of something like this," Dunn said.

The two classes have already started working on their next project. They look forward to put on a successful knee hockey and three-on-three basketball tournament to benefit a young man with cerebral palsy.
