LONGMEADOW – One local veterinarian recently created Paws Calls, a mobile service that benefits in giving animals the necessary treatment needed without pet owners having to leave their homes.
Paws Calls veterinarian Kara Ryczek controls the operations of the business. Ryczek received her bachelor’s degree in biology at Trinity College in Hartford, CT. From there, she studied veterinary medicine at Tufts University. After graduating from Tufts University, she completed a 13 month rotating internship in medicine, surgery and emergency care at VCA South Shore animal hospital.
When Ryczek first started specializing in animal care she practiced in small animal hospitals in the Greater Boston area. She moved back home about 10 years ago.
In March 2020, she decided to open up her own business. She told Reminder Publishing, “I felt there was a need for a mobile veterinary service in our community, as I did not know of any local existing veterinarians providing this service.”
She added, “Local communities have embraced this concept, realizing there is less stress on their pets being seen in the comfort of their home.”
According to Ryczek, this made it easier on owners juggling hectic schedules by not having to wait outside veterinary hospitals while their pets are taken inside without them. She noted that emergency hospitals also typically run four to six hours waits on any given day.
Ryczek is currently treating only dogs and cats. “I provide routine annual care – exams, vaccinations and diagnostics. I see emergencies and well end of life care and at-home euthanasia,” she said.
Moving forward with her business, she plans to continue to provide a mobile service.
“I feel the community realizes the convenience my business provides. I am currently working by myself, and can provide flexibility in scheduling appointments on some nights and weekends,” she stated.
