Longmeadow Cub Scouts host kickball game for youth

Date: 7/29/2022

LONGMEADOW – On Aug. 7, Cub Scout Pack 94 of Longmeadow will host a kickball game for girls and boys Grades K-5 at Bliss Park at 1 p.m.

Pack Committee Chairman Kyle Lewis said, “It’s a time to get together and have some fun. We’re going to have a raffle for a LEGO system. Current Cub Scouts get a ticket to the raffle by bringing a friend, the friend also gets a ticket and anyone interested in Scouting will also get a ticket.”

Scout leaders will be on hand to answer any questions about the Scouting program. They will also have their calendar of events for the following year.

“Our calendar is jam-packed full of different events,” Lewis said. “We’ll explain some of what we can do in Cub Scouting, whether it’s camping, fishing or rocket launching. We’ll try to highlight some of those activities with the parents. We also have a Pine Wood Derby, do service projects for the community, go out hiking and try to find activities that are away from screens, outdoors and with our friends.”

The Cub Scout Pack 94 of Longmeadow welcomes boys and girls from kindergarten through Grade 5. In Scouting, the children take part in outdoor adventures and learn about respecting the outdoors, as well as building character development and value-based leadership that comes with scouting: loyalty, helpfulness and kindness.

Currently, the pack has 35 Cub Scouts. They had 45 children during the school year and a number of those children graduated out. As a child ends Grade six, they move on to Boy Scouts which is for the older children.

When COVID-19 hit, the pack lost a significant number of members and their recruitment activities dropped. In the fall of 2021, they had a recruiting class and gained around 25 members. “We had a great recruitment class of all ages,” Lewis stated. “I attribute that to COVID[-19] being manageable and people were looking to get back out there and do some activities in the outdoors. On August 7, families can expect to have a wonderful time, run around and learn about Cub Scouting.”
