Longmeadow's Williams Middle School decorates doors in holiday contest

Date: 1/7/2022

LONGMEADOW – The holiday spirit was on full display at Williams Middle School on Dec. 22. Classrooms decorated their doors with themes depicting skiing, snowflakes, gingerbread houses and Dr. Seuss’s Grinch and Santa with his reindeer.

Principal Elizabeth Nelson spearheaded the door decorating contest, which she had previously done at Wolf Swamp Road School.

“There’s more student voices here, whereas with the elementary students, I think, it was more teacher directed,” Nelson said. She continued, “Middle school students can sometimes appear to be uninterested, but it gave them the opportunity to celebrate the things they’ve overcome, unite the community and give them something to smile about.”

Nelson said it also gave students a chance to see the silly side of their teachers. “I think this has inspired many of us and reminded us of the joys of teaching,” Nelson said, “ and that you’re never to old to be creative and express yourself through art and collaboration.”
