Maternal Association announces scholarship winner

LONGMEADOW The Longmeadow Maternal Association have shared an important interest for decades in seeing that deserving local high school seniors are awarded scholarship money annually to help them get an easier start in their college education.

Rachel N. Hermany, who chaired the group's 2005 scholarship committee, announced that Susan DiMaura of Longmeadow has been awarded the Maternal Association Scholarship.

DiMaura will attend Merrimack College this fall and plans to major in psychology. Some accomplishments which earned DiMaura the scholarship are: volunteering with the Open Pantry, Rays of Hope Breast Cancer Walk, Special Olympics, National Honor Society tutoring, Blueberry Hill's production of Peter Pan, reading to second graders at Center School; participating in the high school's chapter of KEY Club; working on the yearbook; and being a member of both Students Against Destructive Decisions and the National Honor Society. She also received the English Award of Excellence and the English Award of Achievement.
