LONGMEADOW Maurice "Moe" Fieldstein is gearing up again to help the fight against Multiple Sclerosis (MS).

The second generation business owner of Brightwood Hardware on Williams Street will participate in The 2006 Cape Cod MS Challenge Walk, Sept. 8-10.

The 50-mile walk will take Fieldstein from the village green in Hyannis towards Brewster, via Yarmouth on day one. Day two promises a 20-mile walk through Orleans and Eastham, then circles back to Brewster. And on day three, walkers head 10 miles to Dennis for a 'pre-finish' with massage and barbecue.

Fieldstein's daughter has MS and he's dedicated to the cause. He's participated in the walk since it started in 2002, and takes collections to benefit the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation throughout the year at Brightwood Hardware.

"The important thing is raising the money. For me that's number one," Fieldstein said.

When asked how much he hopes to raise, he immediately said that this was not about him.

"This is for everybody," he said.

Fieldstein said his family is hoping to raise $20,000 to donate to the cause. The fund-raising drive for the MS walk ends this Thursday, and he is encouraging the community to help out if they can.

"If they want to donate change they can come to the store and deposit it in [the collection] jars. Checks can be made out to the MS Society, [they can] mail it, bring it in, and [even] do it online," Fieldstein added. "And they can allocate the funds to walker number 8, and I get credit."

Visit nationalmssociety.org and click on the Challenge Walk. According to the MS Challenge Walk web site, the Challenge Walk is being hosted in nine different locations throughout the nation. The MS Challenge Walk has raised more than $25 million to date.

Brightwood Hardware is located at 794 Williams Street, Longmeadow.
