Music Society presents winter concert

Cellist Volcy Pelletier
The Longmeadow Chamber Music Society will present a winter concert on Jan. 26 at 8 p.m. at the First Church of Christ in Longmeadow. The concert will feature music for strings in combinations of trios and a quintet. The masterpiece Quintet for two violins, viola, and two cellos by Franz Schubert will be the highlight of the concert. Short trios by Bach, Mozart, Montsalvatge, Borodin, and Richard Strauss will also be performed.

The musicians performing include the husband and wife duo: Joel Pitchon, violin and Volcy Pelletier, cello. They will be joined by Marsha Harbison, violin; Ron Gorevic, violin and viola; and Boris Kogan, cello. Pitchon, Pelletier and Gorevic all teach at Smith College and perform extensively in the U.S. and abroad. Harbison, Gorevic and Kogan are members of the Springfield Symphony and have also performed throughout the U.S. and abroad.

The concert will include words about the composers and the pieces and will be followed by a reception. Donations of $10 will be accepted at the door for non-members.

The Longmeadow Chamber Music Society is a volunteer, non-profit organization now in its 24th season. It is sponsored in part by generous donations from Health New England, the Longmeadow Cultural Council, area businesses, and loyal patrons.
