Patricia Moss to speak at Longmeadow Adult Center

LONGMEADOW Patricia Moss, Community Organizer for the Massachusetts Senior Action Council will speak at the Longmeadow Adult Center on March 9 at 10 am.

On January 18, the Springfield Chapter of the Mass. Senior Action Council launched our 2006 "Put the Meds in Medicare Campaign." What has been described as almost incomprehensible drug benefits that will be too expensive for many seniors to afford began on January 1, 2006. Our "Put the Meds in Medicare" Campaign is designed to inform senior citizens of area resources that will assist them in trying to understand what they need to know and do to use this benefit.

We are launching a petition drive to ask the federal government to (1) administer this program through the already existing Medicare program as an additional benefit, (2) allow Medicare to negotiate the price for prescription prices, and (3) close the donut hole that so many seniors will be faced with. Despite the rhetoric describing this benefit as the answer to senior's demand for a drug benefit, it can best be described as a new subsidy program for the pharmaceutical and insurance industry.

If you or someone in you family are having problems or have questions about this issue, you should attend this information session on March 9, at 10 am at the Longmeadow Adult Center.

To register, please call The Longmeadow Adult Center at 565-4150.
