LONGMEADOW — Select Board Chair Paul Santaniello announced at the board's July 2 meeting that Finance Director Paul Pasterczyk would be the acting Town Manager until such time as a full-time replacement takes over the position.

Pasterczyk's appointment is for no longer than 45 days, after which he will receive a stipend for the extra work performed.

"If we do not have a new town manager at that time, we will have to sit down with Paul and figure out what to do next," Santaniello told Reminder Publications.

After extended discussions following 90-minute interviews of four candidates brought before the Select Board by the selection committee, the board identified two finalists for the job — Mark Stankiewicz, who recently resigned as town manager of Plymouth, and Thomas Guerino, town administrator for Bourne.

Former Holyoke Mayor Michael Sullivan pulled his name from consideration following the interviews and Peter Graczykowski, city manager for East Providence, R.I., was not selected as a finalist.

The next step in the procedure is for representatives of the Select Board to visit the candidates' respective towns.

"We are looking to set those up for next week," Santaniello said. "We're currently coordinating the visits with Plymouth and Bourne."

One of Pasterczyk's first assignments will be to find a new veterans' affairs officer with the announcement of Jason Dieni's departure at the end of July.

Dieni is leaving his post in Longmeadow to take a position at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center in Newport, R.I., on July 30.

Pasterczyk said there is not a plan currently to replace Dieni and said that the town may need to appoint an interim veterans' affairs officer in the meantime. He said that he was aware of two potential candidates for an interim position, but was not sure as to whether or not they would be interested in the job.
