Soccer Assoc. hosts equipment drive for Iraqi children

LONGMEADOW The Longmeadow Soccer Association and member Carrie Wilson have organized a soccer equipment collection to benefit children in Iraq. They will collect new and used equipment at the Wolf Swamp soccer fields on Sunday, Oct. 16 from 12 to 4 p.m. All of the donations will be mailed to a US Army civil affairs group who will then hand them out to children.

The Soccer Association said this effort will help improve relations between our troops and Iraqi civilians and also give joy to young kids. Members said they will accept any type of soccer equipment or apparel that is in good condition.

Last year the Association had a similar collection and received over 25 boxes worth of equipment, which was sent to Iraq. The Association said it has received good word from the civilian affairs officer who was in charge that the hand- outs went very well and the equipment was enjoyed by many kids.
