LONGMEADOW Almost 100 families gathered on the Town Green for the July 24 installment of the Summer Sunset Concert Series. The Swinging Shileighleighs took the stage, playing a mix of Irish folk music and acoustic rock for their audience.

"We don't play a lot, usually around St. Patrick's Day, but we've been playing together for 10 years," said Mike Smith, guitarist and vocalist for the band. He's also a music teacher for Longmeadow schools.

Rounding out the band's lineup were Jon O'Neill on percussion and Dave Fazio on bass. All three musicians sang, weaving their voices together on Irish standards such as "Down in the Valley" and "The Unicorn Song," as well as more contemporary tunes like Johnny Cash's "Ring of Fire."

The Cash cover was a particular favorite of two-year-old Will Cosgrove, who danced excitedly with his parents at the event.

"This was a great reason for good friends to get together and enjoy good music," Smith said.

The next show in the Summer Sunset Concert Series is the Jimmy Buffett tribute band Changes in Latitude. The show is Aug. 7 at 6:30 p.m. on the Town Green and is free of charge.
